Ruth Borgobello is a Writer/Director for film and television.
Ruth’s debut feature film, THE SPACE BETWEEN was Australia’s candidate for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2018 Academy Awards.
Passionate about forging links between Australia and Italy, Ruth created the first official co-production between the two countries with THE SPACE BETWEEN, starring Flavio Parenti, Lino Guanciale and Maeve Dermody. The film premiered at the Rome International Film Festival and had its theatrical release in 2017, in 31 cities across Italy and 5 cities in Australia.
THE SPACE BETWEEN had its US premiere at the Palm Springs International Film Festival as part of the Awards Buzz section and has screened at numerous international film festivals including the Rome Film Festival, Toronto Contemporary Italian Film Festival (where Ruth won the Excellence Award for her directing); the Lavazza Italian Film Festival and the Film’s Sake (WOW) Festival in Sydney.
A Victorian College of the Arts graduate in Directing for Film & TV, Ruth also holds a Graduate Diploma in Screenwriting for Film & TV from RMIT, Australia.
Ruth’s award-winning short films have screened at prestigious film festivals including the Tribeca Film Festival, Flickerfest and Interfilm Berlin. Other directing work includes advertising campaigns in Europe for brands such as Friuli Venezia Giulia Tourism and Alfa Romeo.
Ruth currently works between Australia and Europe and is developing her next feature film in Italy, NIGHTFLOWERS with the support of the FVG Film Fund, Italy and four original television dramas; THE MEMORY OF WATER, a six-part mystery drama TV Series supported by VicScreen, TOYGIRL, supported by VicScreen, I AM X and THE GOD PARTICLE, an original 8 Part TV Series in collaboration with Roadshow Rough Diamond.
Ruth is a regular industry lecturer in Directing and Screenwriting at Swinburne University School of Film & TV and SAE Institute.
